They partnered with rhythm game developer Harmonix, and released Guitar Hero in November of 2005.
This game had only been released in Japan, and RedOctane was confident they could make a very similar game, with a comparable Guitar controller, in the west. I don't really know what's best.Sometime in the early to mid 2000s, hardware developer RedOctane discovered a rhythm game made by Konami called Guitar Freaks, which used a Guitar shaped controller and featured a rock and roll based soundtrack.
People have very strong opinions about GHL - personally, I would recommend giving it a try at some point, but if you want a taste of Guitar Hero it's definitely not what most people are familiar with. The first controller you linked is a Guitar Hero: Live controller, which has its frets in a 2圆 layout, rather than the 1x5 layout of every other Guitar Hero and Rock Band game. Different people have very different opinions about which games are the best, but to start with, I think people generally rank GH3, Warriors of Rock, and GH:Metallica quite highly.īut your question was mostly about controllers.
GAME PC GUITAR HERO FREE
I can give more info about that if you like, but feel free to explore the existing resources at the website and /r/CloneHero (be sure to read the sidebar).Īll of the official games have different setlists, somewhat different feel, and to some extent, different engine and gameplay mechanics. It's far better than any other option, official or fan-made, in terms of reliability, ease of use, etc., but it lacks any of the flavor of the original games. If you don't care so much about the story or aesthetic of the game and simply want to hit notes on a plastic guitar, I'd highly recommend Clone Hero.
